Devised peices

Game Show
Personal brainstorming notes

Based off of austerity the board game.
(Bens blog link to the game)

Teams - Plebs vs. Bosses

Audience participation – interactive elements (e.g. get the plebs to dance)

80s game show layout-presenter stereotype

Cheesy (host, music, direction)

Bribery – corruption (bosses can just cheat the system with money if they’re falling behind)

Michael: presenter

Lower class: Adjei, Izzy (sneery rude ignorant) use
Upper class: Kai and Tia (know the answers but don’t know how to phrase it)

Odds are in the bosses favors

Biased spinner or Dice (e.g. someone changes it after its landed)

Stepping stones (snakes and ladders)
Boss get escelators and plebs get snakes

Glamourize the crap set (through overdramatised actions/ gestus)

Ask the audience/plebs questions then say they ran out of time before they can answer

Catch phrases

5 game show slots

Pleb Contestant gets fed up.
Do you know what, I’m done playing this fucking game. I was never gonna win anyway what’s the point in fighting it I’ve got no home, my family cant eat let alone myself whats the point in us low lives even living.
(could be a bosses realization of “we need them”)

5.Ending Winner (one percenters)
Youre all losers apart from the bossed
You’d lost before it began but thanks for watching anyway

Host breaks character as soon as the camera cuts and demands something (consumerism)

Lord Salt - Apprentice spoof

This piece was unscripted and improvised and therefore slightly different each time

(The Apprentice theme plays)

I walk in and there is no chair so i ask for a chair and i'm told to sit on the floor
(sits on the floor awkwardly)
(as the scene progresses)
hurriedly asked what my idea is
Me: "its more of a question than an idea"
Tahlia: spit it out
Me: What if we were all equal?
Daniel:Sorry? (disbelief)
Me: (repeats) What if we were all equal
(bosses and minions have a roaring fit of laughter before the boss abruptly calls it to a halt and asks me to carry on as if nothing happened)
(me clearly shocked but still hopeful, attempts to introduce them to communism through marxism)
Me: There was this book written by this guy named Karl Marx and...
Boss: so you didn't write it.
Me: no
Boss: so why are you here
Me: so i was wondering what it'd be like if we all had the same education and healthcare system. There's a way of living where EVERYONE could eat.
Frank: Oh yes I heard about that... (tells a story about how we could feed third world countries with the waste we produce and all of the minions lean in in disgust)
(frank notices the company staring at him and there is a sudden beat where tells me about the rich and poor divide and how it will never change ending the scene with a "fuck off" to the working class people)
(i go to shake Daniels hand at the end but Tahlia slaps it away and tells him not to touch me)

(I trip over my own feet on the way out to emphasize the embarrassment)

Me - Little guy (represents the working class) presenting Equality, socialist ideologies and marxism.
Gets shut down by the big bosses (the wealthy)
My character is introverted and nervous but has clearly spent time nervously rehearsing his facts so that he knows what to say.

Pride is Confidence (advert)

first idea Pride is confidence - make-up skin your in sexuality - race- religion - I'm poor and I'm proud
(Music stops, people stare, fake smile,

Mock charity advert - third world problems, first world problems
We explored vanity/overconfidence and the lack there of through technology touching upon ideas on consumerism and capitalism

Starts off with Tahlia centre stage saying "I'm not popular enough"

Frank, Daniel and I have our backs faced to the audience but notice an opportunity to make money and turn around marketing our individual products over each other in a mess of words

Daniel is selling fake followers
Frank is selling Filters
I am selling a new selfie stick

At the end Tahlia shouts stop (there is suspense and the audience thinks she is going to do an emotive speech but smiles with a sense of naivety and delivers the line "i'll take all three"
